Dentures (also known as false teeth) are appliances that are used as a replacement of missing teeth and tissues. They are artificial teeth which enable normal functioning of the human mouth.

There are many different types of dentures. The option that’s right for you depends on your unique oral health needs.

Types of Dentures

1. Complete Dentures

Used when all teeth in the upper or lower jaw are missing. These replace the entire arch of teeth and are designed for maximum comfort and stability.

2. Partial Dentures

Ideal for patients who have some healthy teeth remaining. Partial dentures fill the gaps while preserving your natural teeth.

3. Flexible Dentures

Lightweight and more comfortable than traditional dentures, these are a great option for patients with sensitive gums.

4. Implant-Supported Dentures

For added security and chewing efficiency, these dentures are anchored onto dental implants – no slipping or movement.

More about dentures

Removable full mouth dentures

Also called a complete denture, this appliance replaces an entire arch of missing teeth. A full denture rests atop your gums and relies on your palate (the roof of your mouth) or lower jawbone ridge for support. You may need to use denture adhesive (a special type of glue) to keep your appliance firmly in place.

Full dentures are likely what comes to mind when you think about traditional dentures. They consist of artificial teeth and a gum-colored base.

People who wear dentures usually take them out at night to clean them and give their gums a rest.

Partial dentures

If you’re missing several or most of your teeth in one or both jaws, partial dentures may be an option. Partial dentures are similar to full dentures, as they also rely on your gums and underlying bone for support. But partial dentures also have special clasps that hook around your remaining natural teeth, providing additional stability.

Immediate dentures

Sometimes people need tooth extractions before they can wear dentures. An immediate denture is a device you wear right after extractions.

In some cases, immediate dentures are temporary appliances. Once you’ve healed, your dentist will replace them with your final dentures. In other cases, you might be able to wear your final denture immediately after surgery. Your dentist can tell you what to expect in your situation.

Implant-Supported Dentures

An implant-supported denture is a dental prosthesis designed to replace multiple teeth simultaneously. Unlike a conventional denture that sits on the gums, this type of denture connects to the jawbone by inserting dental implants for support.

Your Denture Journey - Steps Involved

Step 1: Initial consultation

The first step in getting a denture would be the initial consultation with the dentist. The dentist will perform an oral examination to find out what kind of denture would be required according to your needs. The dentist will help you decide the type of denture that would be required- Complete or Partial Denture. Extraction or any other procedure before getting dentures, if needed, will also be determined during the initial consultation. All your questions related to your treatment, its cost, and outcome will be answered by your dentist.

Step 2: Taking of Impressions

  • The dentist will take the impression of the jaw where teeth are missing.
  • A plaster model will be made by pouring the impression with gypsum.
  • A special acrylic tray will be made on your jaw model.
  • To ensure proper fit, this special tray will be placed in your mouth followed by border molding so that your denture stays in place and doesn’t fall off unwantedly.
  • Further, a final impression will be taken using the same special tray.
  • Again the impression will be poured with gypsum and acrylic plates will be made followed by wax up rim.
  • Now these wax rims with acrylic plates will be placed in your mouth to set the alignment of your future teeth.(This step is known as jaw relation) So, that you can chew properly.
  • Teeth will be arranged on the arranged position of wax.
  • Once again, the acrylic plates will be placed in the mouth to check proper teeth alignment. If any corrections needed, will be done then and there only. If everything is found correct, the final denture will be made.

Step 3: Delivery of your Denture

The final denture will be placed in your mouth. Instructions will be given to you regarding how to place and remove your denture.

At Dentzania, we offer high quality custom-made dentures that restore function and aesthetics, helping you live life to the fullest. Whether you’ve lost a few teeth or an entire set, Dr. Ekta Kukreja provides personalized denture solutions tailored to your needs.
